![]() Most states now have newborn screening for SCID to help detect and treat babies prior to them becoming sick. The type of SCID helps determine the best treatment. Despite the type of SCID, the primary symptom is reduced or absent immune function and all forms of classic SCID are lethal unless treated appropriately. There are several types of SCID, each caused by a different genetic (hereditary) defect. Types of SCID are classified by which immune cells, T, B, and/or NK cells, are defective. Patients with SCID have a genetic defect that affects T cells and at least one other type of immune cell (hence “combined immunodeficiency”). Natural killer (NK) cells are specialized to help fight viruses as well. B lymphocytes (B cells) produce antibodies that attach to invaders and mark them to be destroyed, but they need T cells to work effectively. These white blood cells include T lymphocytes (T cells) that are central mediators of the immune response and also directly attack viruses. The immune system includes specialized white blood cells that work together to fight off bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Infections that are minor in most people can be life‑threatening in people with SCID. This results in frequent recurring infections with bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is a group of rare congenital syndromes with little or no immune responses. ![]() Long after everyone has forgotten, for example, a Saturday Night Live sketch mocking a presidential candidate, that candidate is remembered by the public for their life and deeds beyond the sketch.īut sometimes, the parody becomes way more popular than the source material, creating a new, rare class of parody: "Things You Didn't Realize Were Parodies." Do these parodies suffer for being so anchorless? Is David Bowie's "Magic Dance" a weaker, less-clever song? Is the Energizer Bunny any less iconic? Let's explore some examples of parodies that occupy this odd space in popular culture. Most parodies "punch up," so-to-speak, poking fun at politicians, films, songs, companies, and so on, that a lot of people are familiar with. It doesn't happen very often, but there are a few examples of this weird phenomenon. ![]() Let’s just make it 75 because My Buddy deserves at least that. What happens when popular parodies stop being parodies? Do parodies more popular than their subject cease to be funny, or are they just funny in a different way? If you didn't know about the movie Downfall, for example, would all of those Downfall Hitler memes still be funny? Prior to the upcoming Child’s Play series coming in October from SyFy, Chucky’s kill count sits at 74. But, it didn’t have the effect the toymakers’ thought it would and My Buddy went completely off line in the 90s’ due to poor sales. Hasbro subsidiary Playskool continued manufacturing the doll into the 1990s, while changing up his look a bit to distance the toy’s legacy away from the Child’s Play series. Whether it was the kids themselves, or parents making that association, the My Buddy toy line suffered. He did NOT want that thing in his room anymore and unfortunately, that same scenario rang true for many other kids as well. However, shortly after seeing the movie, we got rid of those fuckin’ nightmare inducing wads of stuffing on the fact it resembled it TOO much and it did give my brother several nightmares. My younger brother had a My Buddy doll prior to the movie coming out, as I did as well with his sister companion. Just like with Freddy, every kid in the late 80s’ early 90s’ knew all about Chucky and we closely associated the plastic terror with the My Buddy doll. Chucky was directly inspired by My Buddy- who in turn, had a hand in the down-fall of the doll. I’m eternally grateful to have such a marvelous, witty, pint-sized horror maniac in the horror movie legends roster. ![]() I’m certainly not giving the guy (Mancini) any shit. It truly was the perfect combination for creating a memorable identity for a toy while cleverly referencing the doll’s name throughout the “earworm” so much so, all kids’ would remember the name My Buddy or Kid Sister when asking for an oversized bundle of plastic and stuffing with sewn-on clothing. In which case, was most certainly the biggest selling point of this doll. My Buddy was a success and wa considered as the inspiration behind Chucky from the Child’s Play movies. This was controversial as marketing a doll specifically to boys was seen as a big risk. And neither did his off-shoot Kid Sister either- which I TOTALLY HAD.Īnd intro the theme song that will probably be stuck in your head the rest of the day. My Buddy was a doll line made by Hasbro in 1985. The My Buddy doll was officially stocked on store shelves in 1985 and actually sold fairly well – ranking in eighth place officially as the top-ten selling toys for that year. Up until Hasbro launched a market campaign with a doll, directly marketed to boys as, “ A little boy’s special friend! Rough and tough, yet soft and cuddly.” The boys had their GI JOES and HE-MAN, and that seemed to be the way it just was. Although considered non-gender specific, the dolls were mostly marketed towards little girls. In the earlier part of the decade, Cabbage Patch Dolls rules the ugly doll market with a mighty fist crushing any and all competitors that stood in their creepy, cabbage-dwelling way. ![]() Also, looking at this pair side-by-side, it’s beyond obvious we know where he got his look from. But My Buddy was in itself, was inspired by the Xavier Roberts’ line. Sure, the Cabbage Patch Kids as originally stated, served as some inspiration for good ol’ Chuck. Without skipping a beat, 80s’ kids know that My Buddy jingle- and we also know without a doubt, THIS, without a doubt, is the true inspiration behind the Child’s Play franchise. ![]() The oldest inscriptions identifiable as Biblical Hebrew have long been limited to the 8th century BCE. Similarly, the Tel Dan Stele, dated approximately 810 BCE, is written in Old Aramaic, dating from a period when Dan had already fallen into the orbit of Damascus. Linguistic features of the Moabite language (rather than generic Northwest Semitic) are visible in the Mesha Stele inscription, commissioned around 840 BCE by King Mesha of Moab. By the 8th century, a number of regional characteristics begin to separate the script into a number of national alphabets, including the Israelite (Israel and Judah), Moabite (Moab and Ammon), Edomite, Phoenician and Old Aramaic scripts. The script on the Zayit Stone and Gezer Calendar are an earlier form than the classical Paleo-Hebrew of the 8th century and later this early script is almost identical to the early Phoenician script on the 9th-century Ahiram sarcophagus inscription. The Gezer calendar is of uncertain date, but may also still date to the 10th century BCE. The so-called Ophel inscription is of a similar age, but difficult to interpret, and may be classified as either Proto-Canaanite or as Paleo-Hebrew. The find is attributed to the mid-10th century BCE. The 22 letters were carved on one side of the 38 lb (17 kg) stone, which resembles a bowl on the other. The earliest known inscription in the Paleo-Hebrew script is the Zayit Stone discovered on a wall at Tel Zayit, in the Beth Guvrin Valley in the lowlands of ancient Judea in 2005, about 50 km (31 mi) southwest of Jerusalem. The Paleo-Hebrew and Phoenician alphabets developed in the wake of the Bronze Age collapse, out of their immediate predecessor script Proto-Canaanite (Late Proto-Sinaitic) during the 13th to 12th centuries BCE, and earlier Proto-Sinaitic scripts. There is also some continued use of the old Hebrew script in Jewish religious contexts down to the 1st century BCE, notably in the Paleo-Leviticus text found in the Dead Sea scrolls. By contrast, the Samaritan alphabet, as used by Samaritans, is an immediate continuation of the Proto-Hebrew script without intermediate non-Israelite evolutionary stages. ![]() The " Jewish square-script" variant now known simply as the Hebrew alphabet evolved directly out of the Aramaic script by about the 3rd century BCE (although some letter shapes did not become standard until the 1st century CE). The Paleo-Hebrew script is an abjad of 22 consonantal letters, exactly as the other Canaanite scripts from the period.īy the 5th century BCE, among Judeans the alphabet had been mostly replaced by the Aramaic alphabet as officially used in the Achaemenid Empire. Phoenician, Hebrew, and all of their sister Canaanite languages were largely indistinguishable dialects before that time. Like the Phoenician alphabet, it is a slight regional variant and an immediate continuation of the Proto-Canaanite script, which was used throughout Canaan in the Late Bronze Age. The earliest known examples of Paleo-Hebrew writing date to the 10th century BCE. Fewer than 2,000 inscriptions are known today, of which the vast majority comprise just a single letter or word. The first Paleo-Hebrew inscription identified in modern times was the Shebna inscription, found in 1870, and then referred to as "two large ancient Hebrew inscriptions in Phoenician letters". The Paleo-Hebrew and Phoenician alphabets are two slight regional variants of the same script. Use of the term "Paleo-Hebrew alphabet" is due to a 1954 suggestion by Solomon Birnbaum, who argued that "o apply the term Phoenician to the script of the Hebrews is hardly suitable". The Talmud described it as the "Libona'a script" ( Aramaic לִיבּוֹנָאָה Lībōnāʾā), translated by some as "Lebanon script". It is considered to be the script used to record the original texts of the Hebrew Bible due to its similarity to the Samaritan script, as the Talmud stated that the Hebrew ancient script was still used by the Samaritans. pre-Biblical and Biblical Hebrew) from the region of Southern Canaan, also known as biblical Israel and Judah. ![]() The Paleo-Hebrew script ( Hebrew: הכתב העברי הקדום), also Palaeo-Hebrew, Proto-Hebrew or Old Hebrew, is the writing system found in inscriptions of Canaanite languages (incl. 18 CE (derived from Eastern Arabic numerals and Brahmi numerals) BCEĪdlam (slight influence from Arabic) 1989 CE Caucasian Albanian (origin uncertain) c.Cherokee (syllabary letter forms only) c. ![]() Minified code is usually much smaller than the original version. Reduce file size: The more code there is in a file, the larger it will be.There are many reasons why you should minify your CSS and JavaScript: It is important to minify your CSS and minimise JavaScript files so they can load faster on your web pages. Some tools also perform other tasks like renaming variables so they are easier to read and understand after being minified. Minification tools work by parsing the source code and then re-writing it using different techniques like compression or rewriting specific parts of code in a way that makes them smaller while still preserving their functionality. In addition, minified files are less prone to errors due to their shorter length. This means that users perceive your site to load faster and you save on bandwidth costs. The smaller the file size, the faster it downloads. In addition to this, minification tools can compress and minify files using algorithms such as Gzip compression or Deflate compression. It can also be used to convert normal CSS selectors into shorthand ones. It can also be used to remove unused functions and variables from your code, which will reduce its size even further.
